AMERICAN LEGION POST 16 IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT TWO OF OUR MEMBERS, MR. WILLARD WORKMAN OF CONOVER, N.C. AND MR. HARRY LONG ALSO FROM CONOVER WILL BE RECEIVING THE AMERICAN LEGION 60 CONTINUOUS YEARS MEMBERSHIP AWARD AT OUR NEXT REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING ON THURSDAY, MARCH 20, 2014. THE BANDYS HIGH SCHOOL ROTC DRILL TEAM, COMMANDED BY LT. COL BRIAN GREENE (1ST IN NORTH CAROLINA & 9TH IN THE UNITED STATES) WILL POST THE COLORS, BE THE BACK DROP FOR THE AWARDS PRESENTATION BY POST COMMANDER KEN DELLINGER & THEN THE ROTC DRILL TEAM WILL PERFORM FOR ALL THOSE ATTENDING. ALL AMERICAN LEGION MEMBERS, SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION AND MEDIA ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THIS PRESENTATION. THE REGULAR CLOSED MEETING OF THE POST 16 MEMBERS WILL BE CONDUCTED AFTER THESE AWARDS. THE PUBLIC IS INVITED TO ATTEND THE AWARDS PRESENTATION AND DRILL TEAM PERFORMANCE BUT ONLY POST 16 MEMBERS ARE ALLOWED TO ATTEND THE REGULAR MEMBERSHIP MEETING.

AMERICAN LEGION POST 16 ANNOUNCES THE 2013 LAW ENFORCEMENT AND FIRE FIGHTERS AWARDS FOR CATAWBA COUNTY. THE AWARDS WERE GIVEN TO OFFICERS AND FIRE FIGHTERS WHO WERE CHOSEN BY THEIR UNITS TO RECEIVE THE AWARDS. POST 16 COMMANDER, KEN DELLINGER PRESENTED THE AWARDS. THESE AWARDS WERE PRESENTED, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23 AT 12 NOON AT THE LOCAL POST 16 HUT. A BBQ MEAL WITH THE FIXINS WAS FED TO ATTENDING OFFICERS, FIRE FIGHTERS AND THEIR INVITED GUEST.
1. Thursday August 9th…….Senior Citizens Dance, 7 p.m. at
the Newton Recreation Center.
2. Friday August 10th…….Men’s softball tournament located
at Northside Broyhill Park.
3. Saturday August 11th….Men’s softball tournament located
at Jacobs Fork Park.
4. Sunday August 12th…..Cruisers and car show downtown on
main streets and court square. Viewing of old cars begin at
2:30 p.m. Afterwards, cruising until 6:30 p.m. until the music
starts with music furnished by Moods Memory Band.
5. Monday August 13th…..Gospel Music at the Court House with
The Whisnants and The Hayes Family doing the singing.
6. Tuesday August 14th………Beach Music at the Court Square
with music by the Catalinas beginning at 7:30 p.m.
7. Wednesday August 15th……..Baby Parade at the court square
beginning at 6 p.m. followed by Pet Mania at 7:30 p.m
sponsored by Newton Post 16 & McCreary Modern Furniture
of Newton followed by the music of Silverhawk with prizes
and drawings held during the music breaks.
8. Thursday August 16th…….On the square at 9 a.m. opening
ceremonies on parade day. At 10 a.m. on the square
“Salute to Vets” with small reception for guest at Newton’s
downtown library from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.
9. Thursday August 16th…..Reunion service begins on the
square at 4 p.m. with the parade starting at 5 p.m. and music
on the square by the Colors band after the parade.
The 2012 Department of North Carolina Convention will be held
